Shaolin Kung Fu Sihing Nick M
We don't need to do everything the hard way!?
G'day I'm Nick, and following is some info about me....
I came to Shaolin Academy in September 2002, initially because of my interest in martial arts Weaponry. I've since completed six levels of the Weapons curriculum, 5 levels of 5-animal and the first level of 72-fists! I currently train mostly in our Caulfield venue, looking to achieve the first few levels of 170-moves and the next few in 72-fists, a combination I hope to make effective over the next year in some competitions and sparring.
I recently completed my 500th class, and as a member of the KIiT program complement my Kung Fu by taking the Wednesday warm-ups, and the occasional class which I find extremely rewarding. I still have a keen interest in Weaponry, and I am currently consolidating my first 6 levels, practicing with the 9-section whip chain, and learning the nature of my favourite, a real dear's horn passed onto me by my beautiful fiancé Rose!
As a younger martial artist I trained in Karate at two schools in Shepparton. I arrived in Melbourne at the end of 1992, and after a few years on the trot, discovered some great friends, a brilliant form of exercise, and the great fun and fitness to be had with what was then Liang-I Shaolin Kung Fu. In the five years since I have seen that martial arts, and kung Fu in-particular, will hold a place in my life forever. I thoroughly enjoy everything we learn, and look forward to the years ahead with Shaolin Academy.
My inspirations for martial arts came mostly from Monkey, and the wisdom of their journeys I believe helped shape the person I am today. My favourite martial artist is Jet Li, who with an amazing skill, has achieved a lot for the martial arts community. My favourite of the traditional Weaponry is the Shaolin staff, but I'm still working on the mantra to make it grow!
I have a few other passions, including music (fav bands are Tool, System of a Down, Rage Against the Machine and Queens of the Stone Age), my Nissan 200sx and the occasional game of poker. I also enjoy wine and foods, brewing beer and cooking new foods.
Shaolin Academy has some great people involved, including Sijo Robert and Sibok Dagmar who are a great couple committed to the martial arts community. Other great friends made at the club will be for life, and our common interest in martial arts will go a long way in the relationships.
