Sihing Robin (MrMc)
On this page . . .
You will find information about the Shaolin Academy Instructor Robin Mc; the current manager of our Camberwell Kwoon (venue)!
Hello, my name is Robin McDermott, often referred to as Mr Mac. I moved to Melbourne from England in 2003, and proceeded to study in Box Hill for an Electronics degree. After finishing, I found that I had a lot of time on my hands, so I decided to look for a martial art. Something I have had wanted to try since seeing "A snake in Eagle's shadow", an old school Jackie Chan Kung Fu flick. When driving home one night in April 06, I passed the Shaolin Kung Fu Academy and signed up.
Shortly after joining the club, I also joined the KungFu Instructors in Training (KIiT) program. So far i have achieved my First Aid training, Working with Children's check and my MAIA accreditation and assisted in 100 classes. This has seen me qualify as a Level 3 Shaolin Academy Instructor. Once i achieve 100 teaching classes i will be promoted to level 4. As a Red Sash, i was chosen to manage and teach in the Shaolin Academy Camberwell Kwoon (training location). I now teach the Forms class on Fridays and assist on Mondays and Wednesdays. Part of the KIiT Training course includes student gradings. I have participated in three, four in Jun 09.
Currently, i am working on my first post-Red Sash level, the Crane, My target for this is the end of the year. Besides the bare hand aspect, I have gained an interest in Traditional Chinese Weaponry, specifically the staff and spear (my current favorites).
Finally, i love to see new students coming to my venue in Camberwell. We have only been there for two years so there are not a lot of members, only about 6 to 10 per class. If you are reading this, come, the first three classes are on us, for free.
So that's me, and I hope to see you in Camberwell!
