Who can train Shaolin Kung Fu
Shaolin Kung Fu can be trained by anyone. We welcome, and have training with us, all genders, many ethnicities, religious beliefs, professions and inclinations. We have students from all over the world including US, China, Mexico, India, Pakistan, South and Africa . . . Although most are from Australia, the US, Canada and New Zealand.
Our students ages range from 6 years aged to 82 years young but most are between the ages of 14 and 34. Our students sizes range from 4'2", 1m27 to 6'8" to 2 meters tall yet most of our students are between 5' & 6' which is 1m50 to 1m82. We have students ranging from 40kg to 150kg in weight, yet most are between 60 and 100kg.
We have students who do not speak English well, can not fully use a limb, are diabetics, anorexia, overweight, very stiff and sometimes not too strong. That's fine as there is an aspect of Shaolin that will help to work on this as there is an aspect of Shaolin that will fit your abilities, size, weight, thinking, etc.

What is the difference
Shaolin Kung Fu was originally developed as a set of exercises to aid Shaolin monks in there health and well-being in the form of the 18 Hands of Lohan (The 18 Movements of the Enlightened One/Teacher). It derived heavily from Yoga and Indian martial arts. Although Shaolin had to adapt to the circumstances over the centuries and develop their health and fitness art into a Martial Art; the only true focus for Shaolin Kung Fu training though, was and still is;
to have a healthy and fit body, to house a strong mind to enable Shaolin Monks to search for and reach Enlightenment.
It was never meant to be an art of war, combat or even competition although Shaolin Monks would compete with each other for fun and practice. The depictions in Hong Kong cinema has contributed to the Olympic Committee not allowing China to have a Korean style Kung Fu show!
Is Shaolin Kung Fu Safe?
Yes, very safe. That is why we can have such a diversity in each session. Even though we train with Weaponry, to learn to defend against Weaponed attacks, the style of Kung Fu and the quality of teaching allow us to reduce accidents to almost none. Certainly not person-to-person injuries, occasionally there may be some self caused by over stretching or some such but nothing requiring more than a band aid or a days rest. You can check out more details about Martial Art & safety on our Safety Page!

What can Shaolin Kung Fu do for you?
There is something to be said of a style that started 1500 years ago and is now a mature, well thought-out form of health and fitness exercise, and a form of life-style.
Shaolin Kung Fu requires a bit more time to learn but the benefits of taking a bit more effort and time are significant;
- Shaolin Kung Fu will give you all the benefits of Aerobics training. We have a similar way of exercising except it is not just random movements but martial art derived techniques that have a 1000 year history and experience.
- Shaolin Kung Fu will give you all the benefits of Yoga training. We have and hold positions that are beneficial for your posture. Our breathing, stretching and limbering exercises much like Yoga (and not a surprise considering the Indian roots of Shaolin physical exercise).
- Shaolin Kung Fu will give you all the benefits of semi practical styles like Tae Bo, Boxercise and similar except that our instructors are licensed though Shaolin Kung Fu Academy, Australian Government, First Aid trained and have a degree in teaching.
- Shaolin Kung Fu will give you all the benefits of martial arts in general (of course) and the accompanying benefits which include;
Shaolin Kung Fu Academy success is to help you be clearer about what you want, who you are and where you wish to be; whilst working on the health and well-being! For it is important to know that the Shaolin Spirit is not for telling you what to do but to help you find the right questions, to allow you, to find for yourself, what is best for you and follow your own path.
