Weapons of Ancient China - Sharp
Knives are a favorite street weapons; learn how to handle yourself like a Master.
On this page . . .

You will find out about the Ancient and Traditional Weapons that were made to cut, slice, and pierce. As a student you will learn how to use these weapons but more importantly how to defend against these weapons if ever attacked!

Overview

In essence there are two types of Blades, Slicing and Cutting or Stabbing and Jabbing. Now put this into three or more lengths and various combinations and you have Group 2 Weapons. In it's most basic form we would have the Bowie Style Knife (for both slicing and chopping actions) and Stiletto for stabbing and incisions. With some alterations to the length, grip and function we derive a dizzying array of weapons.

The Kwan Dao is the Signature weapon of Gneral Kwan, who is considered the 'Patron Saint" (Ideal) of Chinese Martial Arts.

The uniqueness of the Chinese Broad Sword is that it has all 3 Functions. The tip is in a straight line from the hilt, which makes it a good Stabbing Weapon, The Blade is Curved, which makes it a Slicing/Cutting Weapon. But what makes it even more, is that the Broad Part of the Sword is a bit more solid and allows Chopping. Brilliant!

Sharp objects have become an essential part of life. From Doctors Scalpels, through the Kitchen Knife, to the Stanley knife. All these are tools but all can be used as weapons. 9/11 showed how dangerous even a short sharp knife can be.

You can argue that a Spear can be thrown and should be part of the Throwing Weapons. Well, i would argue that almost anything that can be held can be thrown.

Items like Monks Spade, that are sharpened and only called a spade because of their shape are in this category, real spades, one that you really dig with belong in the Tools & Not-Weapons category. You could also include the Razor Edged Fans on this page as well as any item modified for Battle and Fighting that has a Sharp Edge for Slicing, Cutting or Stabbing!

TCW Symbol for Slicing, Cutting & Stabbing Weapons

Axes are typical Chopping Weapons and tools

Flame Spear, also used for effective slicing.

The Tiger Form is very similar to a normal Farmers Fork. It would be though, made of better metal.

A Spade shaped weapon that is often refered to as the Shaolin Spade; although it would be doubtful for Shaolin to use Sharpned weapons for anything other than practice.

And of course 100's if not 1000's of Straight Swords.

There were many 'Style Specific' weapons. With unusual weapons it was possible to confuse opponents through unusual and surprising usage.

Butterfly Knives are only sharp on the rounded front part. They were a Kitchen utensil which could be used for tenderizing cleaving and cutting.

When used correctly, the Wind Fire Wheels are incredibly effective. They block effectively, Capture Swords and Spears, Slice, Dice and Stab. Not easy to learn but well worth the effort.
