Like Bars of Steel and Flicks of the Whip

The material on this page may look simple and easy but it is not! There is a lot of skill required to learn and practice these skills. We strongly recommend that you do not attempt these unless you are part of the Shaolin Academy Cyber Program or under the guidance of a Kung Fu master!

Shaolin Academy System of Blocks

Each of the 5 Temple Levels in the progress towards Red Sash features the specific group of Blocks. In the 1st Level, Gray Sash we focus on the Iron Shield System of Blocks consisting of 5 most generally used blocks in traditional Martial Arts. The 2nd Kwantung Temple focuses on intercepting very quick and sudden attacks to the face and upper chest where as the next level focuses on techniques to the lower burner, between the belly button and the top of you bladder. The final two levels again feature Iron Blocks, Iron Bar Blocks to be exact. To stop all those very powerful techniques from long fist styles that come around not from the front. With this system you have a complete shield protecting your body with a half sphere of blocks.

Blocking Methods

The distribution of Hard and Soft Blocks is fairly balanced with a number of these having the ability of varied execution and allowing them to be either Iron or Water style. At later levels you will also learn to reverse the Blocks, where hard blocks become soft blocks and soft blocks become hard blocks. And then even later or sooner, you learn how to use blocks as strikes and strikes as blocks. learn these well as you will be learning a lot.
